Folio 290: Thomas Bertie [aka Thomas Hoare], HMS Hindostan, at sea. Acknowledges letter of 12 January 1796, saying that Lieutenant Turner of HMS Topaze has been appointed to HMS Hindostan. As Lieutenant Turner has not yet joined the ship, he has asked Captain George Bowen of HMS Canada for an order for Daniel Carpenter, a Master's Mate, to act as Lieutenant, and this has been issued. He would recommend Carpenter as a most deserving officer.
Folios 291-292: cover for folio 290.
