Folios 286-287: W Snaith, Mansion House [London]. Encloses a certificate he received from his friend Captain Thomas Bertie [aka Thomas Hoare], who asked him to apply to the Treasury for an allowance of £150 which has been agreed for the extra expenses of the expedition which his ship, HMS Hindostan, is taking part. The Treasury have referred him to the Admiralty. At the same time, he requests the discharge of a seaman who was taken from the East Indiaman the Dutton in July of 1795. Richard Owen was serving as a Midshipman with Captain Sampson and had a good chance of securing a position as a Mate on one of the ships going to India. Mr Snaith is anxious to assist Captain Sampson, and asks if Owen can be discharged from HMS Garland at Sheerness. He was sorry to hear from Mr Skinner that Even Nepean, Secretary of the Admiralty, was not well and hopes to hear that he is feeling better. He sends his complements, and Mrs Snaith wishes to join in these sentiments.
Folio 288: enclosure in folios 286-287. Letter dated 10 November 1795 by Captain George Bowen, HMS Canada, Cork Harbour, to Captain Thomas Bertie, HMS Hindostan. An order to receive Brigadier General Whitelock and his suite aboard HMS Hindostan, they should be borne on a Supplementary List.
Folios 289-290: enclosure in folios 286-287. An unsigned and undated note that Captain Stevenson is to be recommended to General Clarke.
