Folio 231: William Bedford, HMS Queen, Spithead. Joseph Quanter was sent aboard HMS Queen on June 21, 1795, as a Pilot for the French Coast. Both Captain Bedford and the Master believe he is not fit for the task, as he is unfamiliar with the coast and does not know the tides. He asks that Quanter be discharged.
