Folio 331: Albemarle Bertie, HMS Thunderer, Spithead. Reverend John Cope Westcott, Chaplain to HMS Thunderer, has applied to be discharged to settle some private affairs which will require his presence for some time in the country. Encloses his letter. He has no objection.
Folio 332: enclosure with folio 332. Letter dated 20 May 1795 by Albemarle Bertie, HMS Thunderer. Mr Westcott, Chaplain, has requested discharge, which has his full consent as he is the blackguard of the whole fleet. Requests no replacement is appointed without consulting him.
Folio 333: enclosure with folio 331. Letter dated 10 May 1795 by John Cope Westcott, HMS Thuinderer. His affairs in the country require his personal attention and he is unwilling to request the long leave of absence which would be required. Therefore requests a replacement is appointed for him. He wil be happy to accept another Chaplaincy as soon as his affairs are in order.
