Description

Folio 319A: Velters Cornewall Berkeley, HMS Emerald, Sea Reach. Has received the letters of 1 and 3 December regarding Erick Hanson, Ellert Fayen, Anders Anderson Norvick and Christian Hanson Hoes. As they appear to be Danish subjects he has discharged them as ordered. Also acknowledges the directions to report on James Holborn, said to be an apprentice to Thomas Davison of Stockton. Refers to his letter of 22 November last and has nothing to add except that Thomas Holborn was impressed routinely. Encloses the indentures, protection, and Thomas Davison's certificate to be disposed of as appropriate.

Folio 320: enclosure with folio 319A. Letter dated 22 November 1795 by Velters Cornewall Berkeley, HMS Emerald, Long Reach, to the Admiralty. On 21 November Lieutenant Bedford of HMS Emerald impressed James Holborn from a brig called the Hawke, Master Pierson, of Stockton. At the time, James Holborn was neither indentured nor protected, nor was there any indenture or protection for him on board the Hawke. Since that date, his Master has been to London and returned with an indenture and protection which are enclosed, as it appears that the Hawke was at sea when the protection was granted.
