Description

Folio 313: Velters Cornewall Berkeley, HMS Emerald, Long Reach. Encloses a letter received from Lieutenant John Douglas of HMS Seahorse, (and now Prize Master of the Dutch East India vessel Cromhout), with a list of the supernumeraries on board the vessel. Proposes to take them on board HMS Emerald until they can be sent to their respective ships. He has been informed that the Cromhout has a large quantity of gunpowder on board, which he presumes should be taken off and sent to some magazines before she goes further upriver. Does not feel he can give such an order, as it is a Prize vessel.

Folio 314: enclosure in folio 313. John W. Douglas, Prize Master and Lieutenant of HMS Seahorse: list of names of 26 men received on 22 October 1795 from HMS Kingfisher and now on board the Cromhout, together with their ship of origin: variously HMS Albion, Garland, Camilla, Brilliant, Lion, Edgar, Nassau.

Folio 315: enclosure with folio 313. Letter dated 9 November 1795 by John W. Douglas, Cromhout (Dutch East Indiaman), Long Reach,to Captain Berkeley. Encloses [not present] a list of men sent from HMS Kingfisher to assist in sailing the Cromhout to Leith Roads. He parted with HMS Kingfisher on 2 November and met with HMS Unicorn on 4 November and proceeded with her. The weather was fair so he proceeded to Long Reach rather then anchor at the Nore. Requests orders for disposal of the men.
