Folio 309: Velters Cornewall Berkeley, HMS Emerald, Long Reach. Responding to the letter of 24 October regarding him having impressed Peter Spooner, the person described in the letter signed by John Bloom. There is no such person on board HMS Emerald, nor has a person of that description been impressed by him, or any of his Officers. It is evident from John Bloom's letter, and from the number of applications that have been made to him for men he has never heard of, that the ship'd name is being used by Officers not belonging to her.
