Folio 380: Jahleel Brenton, Regulating Captain, Greenock. Has received orders from the Admiralty to make a general impress at Greenock and the area. There are still no HM ships in the Clyde except the Peggy tender and the lately appointed Chief Magistrate has refused to back the warrant. He has heard that the town in general is determined to oppose any impress on shore. He fears his small force will not be able to stand against the mob which is always observing the movements of the rendezvous boats. Encloses [not present] his weekly account of men raised.
