Folios 47-48. H Vane to [Newcastle]. Has servants among rebels [Jacobites] gathering intelligence. Will keep transmitting accounts to Newcastle, Sir John Ligonier or the commander at Chester [Cheshire], and H Liddell, who will inform Marshal Wade. Rebels have not reached Lancashire. Dated at Raby Castle [County Durham]. Enclosures:
1. Folio 49. Copy of intelligence: 'Highlanders' [Jacobites] arriving in Penrith [Cumberland], demanding post office's accounts. Marshal Wade at Hexham [Northumberland], advance guard at Hayton Bridge [?Haydon Bridge, Northumberland]. 'Chevalier's' [Charles Edward Stuart] vanguard gone to Lord Lonsdale's, on route to Lancaster. Dated at Penrith, 20 November 1745.
2. Folio 50. Copy of intelligence: 'Highland Army' marching towards Lancashire. Several rebel leaders named: Lord George Murray; Lord Elcae [Elcho]; Lord Nairne; Glenbucket; Duke of Perth. 'Prince' [Charles Edward Stuart] expected soon at J Simpson's house. Rebels demanding public money. Rebels being counted at Eamont Bridge [Cumberland/Westmorland border]. Dated at Penrith, 20 November 1745.
