[Enclosures from SP 36/74/1/114]:

1. Folio 76. Mr [Philip Henry] Warburton to Cholmondeley. Enclosed examinations of Peter Pattinson and John Newby [See SP 36/78/1/1], imprisoned in Chester Castle [Cheshire] for treasonable practices. Dated at [Hefferston] Grange [Cheshire], 17 November 1745.

2. Folios 77-78. Copy. Examination of Peter Pattinson, grocer of Cockbridge, Cumberland. Captured by rebels [Jacobites] at Brampton [Cumberland]. Released by Sir Thomas Sheridan to deliver sealed letter to 'any Gentleman' in Cheshire. Met Duke of Perth with rebels near Brampton. Accompanied by Thomas Newby, a relative from Kendal [Westmorland], took letter to Lord Buttevant, Earl of Barrymore's son at Marbury [Cheshire]. Taken before Philip Henry Warburton, Justice of the Peace. Witnessed by Jonathan Brayne, Thomas Weston, and John Jeffreys. Dated at Hefferston Grange [Cheshire], 17 November 1745.

3. Folios 79-82. Copy. Examination of Pattinson of Cockbridge, near Cockermouth. Travelled to Hexham [Northumberland] to collect £5 owed by Mr Cook, innkeeper. Account of capture by rebels at Brampton, and delivery of letter to Lord Buttevant. Taken before James Mainwaring, Justice of the Peace. Dated 18 November 1745.

4. Folio 83. Copy. Examination of James Barry, Lord Viscount Buttevant. On 16 November, Pattinson and Newby delivered letter, signed C P R [?Charles, Prince Regent]. Sworn before Warburton. Witnessed by Brayne, Weston, and Jeffreys. Dated at Hefferston Grange, 17 November 1745.

5. Folio 84. R Leicester and George Legh to Baron Mainwaring. Account of Patison [or Pattinson] delivering letter to B [Buttevant]. John Landsdon, lieutenant in Folliot's regiment, met Patison at 'Sandiway Head'. Patison called young Pretender 'his Royal Highness' and 'Prince Charles'. When in custody, he said rebels would soon be at Manchester. Dated at Northwich [Cheshire], 19 November 1745.
