Folios 32-33. Draft. Newcastle to Earl Poulett. Presented association of Taunton [Somerset] to king. Carlisle surrendered to rebels [Jacobites]. Castle intends to hold out; gives Marshal Wade time to reach town, and Sir John Ligonier time to reach Cheshire and Lancashire. Lieutenant General Handasyde marched with four regiments to take Edinburgh. French forces preparing to embark from Dunkirk and Brest. Dated at Whitehall [London, Middlesex].
