The AW prefix was used by the Internal European Policy Division. It was responsible for commercial and industrial policy issues and relations with regard to the European Community (EC), the introduction of the Single Market, EC agreements, and general coordination and advice on EC matters with regard to trade and industry. The Single Market Unit was responsible for the Campaign initiative, sponsorship and funding, briefing, publicity and coordination.
