Incorporated 8th July 1853. By act of 21st July 1859, authority was given for Portsmouth Railway Company to be leased to or amalgamated with London and South Western Railway Company, and deed of amalgamation was sealed by Portsmouth Railway Company on 1st March 1860. London and South Western Railway Company became part of Southern Railway Company as from 1st January 1923 under Railways (Southern Group) Amalgamation Scheme 1922 dated 22nd December 1922.
