Folios 250-251: George Ferguson, HMS Pylades, Deptford. Acknowledges receipt of admiralty letter advising that Mr Shepherd, Gunner, has been marked for promotion and that the passing certificate and acting orders of Mr Pickard, Boatswain, had not been received. Blames the Agents for extreme neglect for mislaying the Certificate but encloses the Acting Orders which have now been found, and requests that Mr Pickard is appointed to a larger ship.
Folio 252: enclosure with folios 250-251. Orders, 24 October 1808, Rear Admiral Sir Alexander John Ball, HMS Trident, Malta to William Pickard, Boatswain's Mate, HMS Espoir. Appoints William Pickard as Acting Boatswain on HMS Pylades in the room of Edward Wise who has been removed to HMS Spartan.
