Description

Folios 224-225: Robert M Fowler, HMS Nyaden, off the Isle of Wight. Covering letter enclosing list of the convoy that sailed for St Thomas on 5 May 1811, together with his log and list of vessels remaining in the convoy which is much reduced due to the late tempestuous weather [items not enclosed; together with copies of his Orders from Rear Admiral Sir Francis Laforey. Advises that he gave the despatches from Rear Admiral Laforey into the charge of Captain Francis Gore Willock who returned as a passenger with him on HMS Nyaden.

Folios 226-227: enclosure with folios 224-225. Copy of Orders, 24 April 1811 by Rear Admiral Sir Francis Laforey, HMS Dragon, Carlisle Bay, Barbadoes to Robert Merrick Fowler, HMS Nyaden. Directs Robert Fowler to take under convoy any Trade bound to England and proceed with them on 26 April 1811 to join the first convoy at the General Rendezvous at Tortola and proceed to the Downes, calling at St Thomas for the trade of that island and that of Santa Cruz. States that under no consideration are any Trade to proceed beyond Spithead without protection and that all Masters of the Trade are informed of places of rendezvous and what to do in case of separation.

Folios 227: enclosure with folios 224-225. Copy of memorandum, an addition to the Orders of 24 April 1811, by Rear Admiral Sir Francis Laforey, to Robert Merrick Fowler. Orders Fowler to anchor between Buck Island and the island of St Thomas to collect the homeward bound trade from the Leeward Islands instead of Tortola.
