Description

Folios 213-214: Abel Ferris, HMS Pyramus, at Motherbank in quarantine. Encloses his acting appointment and requests he is confirmed in post. Explains he proceeded to Gibraltar to join HMS Druid to be informed by Commodore Charles Vinicombe Penrose that HMS Druid had gone to England with wounded officers. Requests that he may proceed to London as soon as HMS Pyramus is out of quarantine. Also mentions his acting appointments in HMS Royal Sovereign, Tigre, Fame, Volontaire, San Josef and Euryalus.

Folios 215-216: enclosure with folios 213-214. Orders 24 February 1811, by Admiral Sir Charles Cotton, on board HMS San Josef, Mahon, to Abel Ferris, Acting Captain, HMS San Josef. Appoints Abel Ferris as Acting Captain of HMS Euryalus until Captain George Waldegrave joins.

Folios 216-217: enclosure with folios 213-214. Orders 24 February 1811, by Admiral Sir Charles Cotton, on board HMS San Josef, Mahon, to Abel Ferris, Acting Captain, HMS San Josef. Appoints Abel Ferris as acting captain of HMS Thames , replacing Captain George Waldegrave who has been appointed to HMS Euryalus.

Folio 218: enclosure with folios 213-214. Orders, 23 April 1811, by Admiral Sir Charles Cotton, HMS San Josef, off Toulon, to Abel Ferris. Appoints Abel Ferris to act as Captain of HMS Druid, replacing Captain Sir John Louis, who is being removed to HMS Aigle.
