Description

Folios 618-620: Thomas Francis Fremantle, HMS Ganges, Portsmouth. Encloses a letter from John Waller, Acting Lieutenant. He came into HMS Ganges by accident and his behaviour has been very proper. He is in every way qualified to do the duty of a Lieutenant and recommends him.

Folios 620-622: enclosure with folios 618-620. Letter dated 3 December 1804 from John Waller, HMS Ganges, Portsmouth Harbour to Thomas Francis Fremantle, Captain of HMS Ganges. Asks for his statement of service to be sent to the Admiralty. he has been at sea 12 years. He was in the action of 12 March 1795 on board HMS Diadem and employed during 1796 and 1797 on the coast of Genoa and in the action of 14 February 1797. He has been repeatedly employed in the gun launches at the blockade of Cadiz in 1798. He passed his examination for Lieutenant in January 1803 and joined HMS Ganges in September 1803. At his application [Captain Fremantle's] he became Acting Lieutenant in May 1804 and still holds that position. As the ship is about to be paid off asks to be recommended.
