Folios 589-590: Robert Forbes, Liverpool. Advising that the persons referred to in Admiralty letter of 20 July were a man of 60 years old and a boy of 13 - neither fit for the Service. The were sent back with the constable who brought them from Shrewsbury and a certificate given for those found serviceable to the Collector of the Customs, who no doubt [Forbes says] paid the travelling expenses, which he was not authorised to do. Adds that there are now 67 new raised men on shore at the two Rendezvous but no vessel for them. Begs for further instructions as he has found no secure place to hire, the Mayor cannot find one, and it will not be possible to raise more men until a tender is here to receive them.
