Folios 581-582: Robert Forbes, Liverpool. Advising that Lieutenant Sowerby's health has made it necessary to supersede him as commander of the Rosa tender, and he has appointed Lieutenant Grove temporarily. Grove had been appointed to the Two Friends but has never joined her as she is presently under repair at Plymouth and it will be some weeks before she is ready. If their Lordships approve of this Forbes says he will discharge Lt Sowerby and convert his gang into a boat crew ready for when the cutter arrives from Plymouth. The Rosa sails this day with 128 new raised men.
Folios 583-584: enclosure with folios 581-582. Letter dated 16 July 1803 from Lt John Sowerby, asking to be superseded from HMS Rosa due to the bad state of his health.
Folios 585-586: enclosure with folios 581-582. Letter dated 16 July 1803 from the physician D. Lindsay, Liverpool, confirming that Sowerby has 'inflammatory fever' and an ulcer on his leg and is incapable of performing his duty at present.
