Folios 246-247: Samuel Peter Forster, HMS Retribution, Spithead. Reports arrival today. He sailed from Port Royal, Jamaica on 4 November 1801 and from Port Antonie on 19 November 1801 with the Convoy (list enclosed) [not included] with HMS Volage. From the very bad weather we have experienced, six sail left me before we got through the passage. One on the 21 December 1801, about ten sail separated in a heavy Gale and on 2 January 1802 the remainder separated, In the last Gale HMS Retribution became very leaky and was so much damaged in her rigging (as my log and the Ships defects enclosed will shew) [Log not included - Defects included]. He judged it necessary to make the best of my way. He anchored here instead of the Downs, having only two anchors and two good cables.
Folios 248-249: enclosure with folios 246-247. Defects of HMS Retribution dated 20 January 1802. Signed Samuel Peter Forster and William Nagle - Carpenter.
