Prisoner name: John Austin Neame.
Prisoner occupation: Collecting clerk for George Drake Sewell and Thomas Cross of Compton Street, Soho, Middlesex, linen drapers, silk merchants and haberdashers.
Court and date of trial: Old Bailey September Sessions 1831.
Crime: Embezzlement from employers.
Initial sentence: 12 months imprisonment with hard labour.

Petitioner(s): Two petitions from Austin Neame of Canterbury, Kent, formerly army major, the prisoner's uncle, one with recommendations to clemency from prisoner's employers and undersigned by three people testifying to prisoner's good character. John Austin Neame, the prisoner, undersigned by G Chesterton, prison governor.
Grounds for clemency: Previously trustworthy and honest; pleaded guilty to crime; from respectable army family now fallen on hard times; uncle will place him in employment with connections in Antwerp; intended to return money and goods; in poor state of health. Good conduct in prison, serving as a nurse in the infirmary.
Other papers: Surgeon's certificate from House of Correction Coldbath Fields confirming prisoner's previous poor state of health and good conduct. Note concerning case.
