This series includes minutes of general meetings and meetings of the Board of Directors and proprietors, including reports and accounts, minutes of the Oldham Railway Committee, stock and share registers, ledgers, journals, cash books and other accountant's records, plans and deeds of covenant. In 1905 the company became the responsibility of the Great Central and London and North Western Railways Joint Committee.
Incorporated under act of 10th August 1857. By act of 30th June 1862, company was leased to London and North Western Railway Company (subsequently the London Midland and Scottish Railway Company) and Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway Company (later Great Central Railway Company and subsequently London and North Eastern Railway Company) who guaranteed dividends. Undertaking was transferred to British Transport Commission by virtue of Transport Act 1947.
