Incorporated by Act 27th July 1846 (for lines from Thirsk to Clifton Junction, Bedale to Wath, and Bishop Auckland to Tebay), North Counties Union Railway Company, which included projects of the proposed York and Carlisle, and Yorkshire and Glasgow Union Railways, was authorised to build 127 miles of railway. Only two miles of railway was built and this was later sold to Leeds and Thirsk Railway for £6,000. Powers of company having lapsed, last meeting was held on 28th February 1860.
