Incorporated by act of 26th June 1846. Under act of 1857, lease of company was granted to Midland, and Lancaster and Carlisle railway companies for 999 years. Company was subsequently transferred to and absolutely vested in Midland Railway Company as from 1st January 1871. Midland Railway Company was amalgamated into London Midland and Scottish Railway Company under North Western, Midland and West Scottish Group Amalgamation Scheme 1922 dated 30th December 1922.
