Incorporated under act of 14th August 1885 as Shanklin & Chale Railway Company and name changed under act of 12th August 1889 to Newport, Godshill & St. Lawrence Railway Company. Company was amalgamated with Isle of Wight Central Railway under Isle of Wight Central (Godshill Transfer) Act 1913. Isle of Wight Central Railway Company was transferred to and absorbed by London & South Western Railway Company at midnight on 31st December 1922 under London & South Western Railway (Southern Group) Preliminary Absorption Scheme 1922 dated 23rd December 1922. London & South Western Railway Company became part of Southern Railway Company from 1st January 1923 under Railways (Southern Group) Amalgamation Scheme 1922 dated 22nd December 1922.
