Under act of 10th May 1844 the Birmingham & Derby Junction, the Midland Counties, and the North Midland railway companies were consolidated and incorporated into one Company by the name of the Midland Railway Company.

The Midland Railway Company was amalgamated into the London Midland and Scottish Railway Company under the North Western, Midland and West Scottish Group Amalgamation Scheme 1922 dated 30th December 1922.
