Administrative / biographical background

Incorporated under act of 21st July 1856 and leased to London, Chatham & Dover Railway Company for 999 years from 1st September 1863 under act of 7th August 1862. Under South Eastern Railway (Southern Group) Preliminary Absorption Scheme 1922 dated 6th February 1923 Mid Kent (Bromley to St. Mary Cray) Railway Company was transferred to and absorbed by Southern Railway Company as from 1st January 1923 immediately after Railways (Southern Group) Amalgamation Scheme 1922, dated 22nd December 1922, came into operation and took effect.
