Incorporated under act of 22nd July 1861 and worked by Great Western and London and North Western railway companies under agreement dated 1st January 1877. Company was vested in latter two companies jointly as from 1st January 1893, by virtue of Section 51 of Great Western Railway Act 28th June 1892, and was managed by London and North Western and Great Western Railways Joint Committee, subsequently London Midland and Scottish and Great Western Railways Joint Committee, as from 1st January 1923. This committee functioned until nationalisation of railways, 1st January 1948, under Transport Act 1947.
