Administrative / biographical background

First recorded meeting was on 5th October 1846, but it appears that Bill for Company was not passed by Parliament, "it having been represented by several Members of Parliament to individual directors of this company that strong feeling exists in the House that passing of any further Railway Acts (however useful they may eventually be to districts through which lines pass) would materially increase pecuniary pressure on country". (Minute of 11th May 1847). Resolution of 12th January 1848 records decision to wind up affairs of Company.
