The London and Brighton Railway Company was incorporated under an act of Parliament in 1837. In July 1846, under a further Act of Parliament, the London and Brighton and the London and Croydon railway companies were consolidated and united to form the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway Company. The London, Brighton and South Coast Railway Company became part of the Southern Railway Company under the Railways (Southern Group) Amalgamation Scheme in 1922.
