Ernest Terah HOOLEY and others: conspiring together to cheat and defraud in the purchase and sale of shares of JUBILEE COTTON MILLS LTD and making certain written statements which they knew to be false.
Notes: The Common Sergeant in passing sentence said that the Jubilee Cotton Mills was a gross swindle, of which HOOLEY was the ringleader. An earlier account of the fraudulent transactions of Ernest Terah HOOLEY (financier) in the years 1903-1912 will be found on MEPO 3/163. From a police administration viewpoint, minute 36 by the (then) Assistant Commissioner, Crime (Sir B E WYNDHAM-CHILDS) about the manner of presenting lengthy police reports is of considerable interest.
