Incorporated under Acts of 22nd July 1885 and 25th September 1886 as St. Helens and Wigan Junction Railway Company. Name altered under act of 26th July 1889 to Liverpool, St. Helens and South Lancashire Railway Company. Under Great Central Railway Act of 1905, undertaking was vested in and transferred to Great Central Railway Company from 1st January 1906. Great Central Railway Company was vested in London and North Eastern Railway Company from 1st January 1923 by virtue of North Eastern, Eastern and East Scottish Group Amalgamation Scheme 1922 dated 30th December 1922.
