Incorporated under act of 2nd July 1847. By Liverpool, Crosby and Southport Railway (Sale or Lease) Act, 14th August 1850, powers were given to this company to sell, and to Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway to purchase, Liverpool, Crosby and Southport Railway. Sale, which did not take effect until 1855, was authorised at special meeting of Liverpool, Crosby and Southport Railway Company held on 14th June 1855 and was to operate as from 1st January 1855. Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company meeting held on same day declined to agree to terms, but at adjourned meeting held on 12th July 1855, purchase was confirmed.
Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company was amalgamated with London and North Western Railway Company under latter title as from 1st January 1922 under London and North Western and Lancashire and Yorkshire railway companies' Amalgamation Scheme 1921 dated 20th December 1921, and London and North Western Railway Company was amalgamated into London Midland and Scottish Railway Company as from 1st January 1923 under North Western, Midland and West Scottish Group Amalgamation Scheme 1922 dated 30th December 1922.
