Originally promoted as Liverpool and Lancashire Northern Railway Company per minute of 20th September 1830, but by minute of 29th September 1830, name of company was changed to Liverpool and Leeds Railway Company. It does not appear whether company obtained its Act but they subscribed to capital of Manchester, Bolton and Bury Canal Navigation and Railway Company which was incorporated under act of 23rd August 1831.
