Incorporated 17th August 1857 as Herne Bay & Faversham Railway Company. Under act of 15th August 1859, name was changed to Margate Railway Company, and under act of 6th August 1861 name was again changed to Kent Coast Railway Company. By act of 31st July 1871 amalgamation was authorised with London, Chatham & Dover Railway Company under agreement dated 13th July 1871, sanctioned by proprietors of both companies in August 1871. This agreement is set out in full on page 7 of appendix to Bradshaw's manual for 1872. London, Chatham & Dover Railway Company became part of Southern Railway Company as from 1st January 1923 under Railways (Southern Group) Amalgamation Scheme 1922 dated 22nd December 1922.
