Incorporated under act of 17 & 18 Vic cap.143 (1854) as Horncastle & Kirkstead Junction Railway Company. Act contained provisions as to Great Northern Railway Company working line which was opened on 11th August 1855. Company changed its name to Horncastle Railway Company in 1861. Under London & North Eastern Railway Absorption (No 1) Scheme 1923 dated 29th June 1923, Horncastle Railway Company was transferred to and absorbed by London & North Eastern Railway Company as from 1st January 1923.
