Incorporated 5th July 1865 under Act (28 & 29 Vic cap.244). Railway was abandoned by virtue of Sections 19 etc. of North Eastern Railway Company (Leyburn and Hawes Branch etc.) Act 4th July 1870, and Hawes and Melmerby Railway Company dissolved, North Eastern Railway Company being authorised by same act to make a railway from Leyburn to Hawes.
