The Goole and Marshland Light Railway Company was incorporated under Light Railways Act of 1896, by Order of Light Railway Commissioners, confirmed by Board of Trade 17th August 1898.
The North Eastern Railway Act of 1902 confirms an agreement for sale of Goole & Marshland Light Railway Company to North Eastern and Lancashire & Yorkshire railway companies jointly as from 2nd October 1901, its affairs being administered by joint committee. Isle of Axholme Light Railway Company was also passed to this committee which became Axholme Joint Railway Committee, vested in British Transport Commission under Transport Act 1947.
