A company of this name was incorporated under act of 7th July 1873 and abandoned under act of 23rd July 1877. A further Company was incorporated under act of 26th August 1880. Receivers and managers to this company were appointed in June 1913 to manage its affairs.
Under Southern Railway (Freshwater, Yarmouth & Newport Railway) Absorption Scheme 1923, dated 11th August 1923, Freshwater, Yarmouth & Newport Railway Company was transferred to and absorbed by Southern Railway from 1st January 1923 immediately after Railways (Southern Group) Amalgamation Scheme 1922, dated 22nd December 1922, came into operation and took effect.
