Eastern Union Railway Company was originally incorporated in 1844 under Act 8 Vic, cap.85.

Under act of 1847 (11 Vic, cap.174) it was amalgamated with Ipswich & Bury St. Edmunds Railway Company (incorporated under Act 9 Vic, cap.97) to form a new Eastern Union Railway Company.

Under act of 7th August 1862, Eastern Union Railway Company was amalgamated with East Anglian Railway; Eastern Counties Railway; Norfolk Railway; and East Suffolk Railway, with their subsidiary undertakings, to form Great Eastern Railway Company.
