The East Anglian Railway Company was incorporated under an of act 11th Vic, cap.275 (1847) as an amalgamation of the Lynn and Ely, Lynn and Dereham and ELy and Huntingdon railway companies, all of which had been founded in 1845.
The Eastern Counties Railway Company entered into possession of line under powers conferred by Act 15 Vic, cap.108, 17th June 1852, which also contained powers, under certain conditions, for leasing of East Anglian Railway Company to them, but under act of 7th August 1862, East Anglian Railway Company was amalgamated with Eastern Counties; Norfolk, Eastern Union, and East Suffolk railway companies and their subsidiary undertakings to form Great Eastern Railway Company.
