The East and West Yorkshire Junction Railway Company was incorporated under act of 16th July 1846 (9 & 10 Vic, cap.164). The undertaking came into possession of the York and North Midland Railway Company under a working contract for 99 years and was amalgamated with that company under act of 28th May 1852 (15 Vic, cap.57).
Under act of 31st July 1854 (17 & 18 Vic, cap.211), York and North Midland Railway, and Leeds Northern Railway Company were dissolved and vested in York, Newcastle and Berwick Railway Company, thenceforth called North-eastern Railway Company, later known as North Eastern Railway Company.
