Documents include minutes, stock and share registers, deeds and agreements, dorrespondence, accounting records as well as miscellaneous records such as press notices and advertisements.
The Easingwold Railway Company was incorporated by act of 23 August 1887. Line was opened for traffic 1 July 1891, and closed 30 December 1957. Date of winding up of company was 12 October 1959.
Although this company never became part of British Transport Commission, towards end of its existence it hired its locomotives from British Railways, who, after closing of the line, provided cartage services for area formerly serviced. Records of company eventually passed to British Railways for custody.
