Incorporated under act of 28th July 1863 as Dundalk & Greenore Railway Company. Name of company was altered to Dundalk Newry & Greenore Railway Company under act of 21st July 1873. All capital eventually held by London & North Western Railway Company, which company was amalgamated with other companies as from 1st January 1923 to form London Midland & Scottish Railway Company, which in turn passed to British Transport Commission under Transport Act 1947.
A warrant of abandonment of railway dated 18th September 1952 was granted by Minister of Commerce in Northern Ireland under Transport Act (Northern Ireland) 1948, and a warrant of abandonment dated 22nd December 1953 granted by Minister of Industry & Commerce in Republic of Ireland under Abandonment of Railways Act 1850. Under the British Transport Commission Act of 31st July 1957 the Dundalk Newry & Greenore Railway Company was dissolved and all remaining assets passed to British Transport Commission.
