The Didcot, Newbury and Southampton Railway Company was incorporated under the Didcot, Newbury and Southampton Junction Railway Act 5th August 1873 and its name changed to Didcot, Newbury and Southampton Railway Company under the Didcot, Newbury and Southampton Railway Act 16th July 1883.

The company was absorbed into the Great Western Railway Company as from 1st January 1923 by the Great Western Railway (Western Group) Preliminary Absorption Scheme (No. 4) 1922.
