Description

Prisoner name: Joseph Robinson.

Court and date of trial: Maidstone Town Sessions, Kent, October 1831.

Crime: Compounding a felony; by illegally detaining and extorting money from William Clifford on suspicion of his having stolen a watch, hat and two handkerchiefs from a Mr Clackitt.

Initial sentence: Three months imprisonment.

Annotated: Refused.

Petitioner(s): Joseph Robinson (the convict) undersigned by 222 inhabitants of Maidstone, Kent; Joseph Robinson; 11 members of the Grand Jury who indicted the convict; 11 members of the petty jury who tried the convict; Mr Robarts of Lombard Street, London.

Grounds for clemency: His fellow convict, who received the same sentence of three months imprisonment, was discharged after approximately one month and Robinson is aggrieved that he has to serve his full sentence.

Additional Information: Tried and convicted with Edwin Poolly who received the same sentence.
