The Corris Railway Company was incorporated by an act of 12th July 1858 as "Corris, Machynlleth and River Dovey Tramroad" but its name changed to Corris Railway Company under an act of 25th July 1864.

Under the Great Western Railway Act 4th June 1930, Corris Railway Company was dissolved and vested in Great Western Railway Company.
