The Cork City Railways Company was incorporated under the Cork City Railways Act of 4 August 1906.

Owing to withdrawal of Great Western Railway's financial support, company was vested in Great Southern Railways (of Ireland) under Irish Railways Act of 1924 and scheme dated 23 January 1925.
