The Colchester, Stour Valley, Sudbury and Halstead Railway Company was incorporated 26th June 1846 under the acts 9 and 10 Vic, cap.76, and re-constituted by an act of 25th May 1855.

It was vested in Great Eastern Railway Company from 1st July 1898 under the Great Eastern Railway Act of 1898.
