Folio(s) 30A-30B. Letter from M Cove, E Marshall, R E Johns and John Trevenen, magistrates acting in the hundred of Kerrier, Helston [Cornwall] regarding riots by miners. Warrants have been issued and executed by the High Constable with the help of Lieutenant Nourse and 40 men of the Wiltshire [Militia], capturing one ringleader. Major Read, commanding officer of the Wiltshire, thinks it improper to send his men without a magistrate in person and has enclosed a note [not included]. It seems that every individual in the mining area is involved in the riots and it is unsafe for any civil power to venture alone without the military. Rioters can only be taken at dead of night, as during the day they hide in the mines.
